Kon Tum hosted international football tournament for ethnic minorities

(CPV) - Seven teams are playing in an international youth football championship for ethnic minorities which is co-organized by the Vietnam?s Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Kon Tum provincial People?s Committee.

As many as over 160 players from the Central Highlands provinces of Kon Tum, Gia Lai, Dak Lak, Dak Nong and Lam Dong, as well as the border provinces of Attapeu from Laos and Rattanakiri from Cambodia, will compete for nine days at the 11,000-capacity Kon Tum Stadium.

The 2-group competition?s initial round robin format will be used to select the best four teams for the semi-finals.

?We have arrived at Kon Tum province 3 days ago. Vietnamese people are very friendly and hospitality. The well-prepared team from Laos with 30 members are in good condition, ready for the first match?, said player Chan Than, from Attapeu team.

It is one of activities welcoming the 100th anniversary of the Kon Tum province?s establishment (February 9, 1913 ? February 9, 2013), enhancing the special solidarity and friendship between the three nations as well.

The opening match in group A between hosting province Kon Tum and Attapeu (Laos) ended 5-1. The event will wrap up on January 20.

Kon Tum Stadium was just inaugurated after 2 years of construction, with a total investment of around VND145 billion from the Kon Tum provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism./.
